Communicating CHSS Excellence

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences marketing and communication team produces and implements strategic communications and marketing for CHSS departments and programs to market their degrees to potential students, to raise awareness about CHSS faculty expertise and research, and to create and maintain the brand identity for the college. We promote our faculty research, achievements, and more by creating and sharing content via the college’s website, email communications, and social media. How We Support CHSS's Mission

The marketing and communication team is here to get the news out about the great things happening in the college.  

We help write stories on the achievements, advancements, and innovations throughout the college to be published on CHSSWeb, in our annual publications, and promoted through central Mason channels such as Mason Spirit. 

We manage social channels for the college, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.  

We maintain the CHSS brand to create a positive visual identity for the college that aligns with Mason's primary branding. 

We create and maintain a series of CHSS and Mason resources and workshops to support departments and programs in their marketing efforts: how-to guides, design templates, best practices, and more.  

We create and manage marketing efforts for the college and support our programs’ marketing efforts. We also manage the Target X communication plans for CHSS graduate programs. 

How You Can Help: Share your Story 

To keep unit websites fresh with new content, faculty are encouraged to write articles around their achievements and departmental events and to share them on their departmental web pages, newsletters, and social media channels. If there is a high-profile topic you’d like covered by the college’s communication and marketing team, or if you’d like help pitching a story to Mason’s Office of Branding, please contact Melanie O'Brien. Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

We have a Brag Points submission form for our faculty and staff to let us know about their recent achievements and noteworthy items.

Student and Alumni Profiles 

Student profiles are a wonderful, concrete way to show our donors, prospective students, and other supporters the impact of your teaching and research. It is especially helpful for potential students to find student profiles, as it helps them understand what the Mason student experience is all about and see themselves at Mason. CHSSWeb includes built-in functionality that makes it easy for departments to write and post their own student and alumni profiles to their site. 

If you feel a student or alumnus represents your program well, please share their profile with either the marketing and communications team or the advancement team. We love to highlight students on the website, in reports, at events, and in communications with potential donors.  

Mason Branding and Logos 

You can find George Mason University overall brand guidelines online at brand.gmu.edu. CHSS has created an online portal that includes branded resources such as templates and logos for departments and programs to use.
