Standard Email Signature
CHSS has a recommended standard email signature for faculty and staff. The purpose of this format is two-fold: to provide necessary information to contacts, as well as presenting a cohesive and professional appearance as a member of the Mason community. Please enable your email signature to display both inside and outside the organization.
Tips for Creating Your Signature
Set-Up: Outlook > File > Options > Mail > Signature
For more information, please review Microsoft’s instructional guide on email signatures.
Logos: It is recommended to keep graphics simple and to only use one logo in the footer. The logo is scalable but should never be reproduced smaller than 0.625 inches (3p9pt) in width. Do not re-create the college, department, and/or center logos. Please reach out to the CHSS Marketing and Communications team if you are need of your department or the college logo.
Font: Please use only one font in your email signature. Franklin Gothic Book or Arial in size 9 or 10 are recommended.
Optional Elements
Pronouns: Used by individuals to identify themselves and their gender identity/expression.
FOIA Language: NOTICE: The Commonwealth of Virginia claims the right to monitor messages sent to and from this address at any time. In addition, messages sent to and from this address may be subject to disclosure under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.
Work hours disclaimer: My working hours vary and I may send emails outside the conventional 8:30am-5:00pm workday. No need to respond to my emails outside your own schedule.
Social Media: It is recommended to not include social media icons in your signature due to Outlook constraints. However, feel free to include social media hyperlinks to your profiles if you or your department are active on social media.
Promotion of current projects and research: Upcoming book releases, current courses taught, etc.
Full George Mason Address: This is recommended for external audiences, and is not necessary for messages sent to internal-only audiences.
